Design FAQ

How does Loran work?

We’ve taken the guesswork out of getting a designer kitchen. You’ll start by measuring your space using our simple step-by-step guide or pull us in for the heavy ligting. From there, we kick things off to create a tailored cabinetry plan that balances style and function. Once you’ve fallen in love with your kitchen, you place your order, and your cabinetry arrives pre-assembled for easy installation. Your contractor handles the install, and our Kitchen Makeover Manual, written by the Stil James team, helps you pull the whole space together with expert guidance on countertops, flooring, lighting, and furniture. With Loran, you get a high-end, designer-approved kitchen—without the long timelines, high costs, or overwhelming decisions.

What’s the difference between working with Loran Cabinetry and hiring an interior designer? Do you offer custom cabinetry?

With Loran, you’re not just choosing cabinetry—you’re getting a kitchen designed by experts. Our process is built for homeowners who want the benefits of professional design without committing to a full-service interior design project. We bring decades of interior design experience into every plan, guiding you through layout, function, and finish selections with a designer’s eye. You’ll handle the measurements and installation on your end—but everything else? We’ve got you covered with curated solutions that feel personalized, intentional, and beautifully cohesive.

And to make sure your whole space comes together seamlessly, every Loran client gets a mini design consult & our exclusive Kitchen Makeover Manual, created by the Stil James team—with design direction for everything from countertops to lighting to furniture. It’s the best of both worlds: high-end design expertise, simplified.

How do I get the lighting, hardware & furniture I see in your photos?

We partner with an amazing online retailer to offer you discounted pricing on everything you need to finish off your kitchen. Once you are working with us, you will receive our Kitchen Makeover Manual and a mini design consult, which includes where to source many of the items you see in our photography.

Can my Loran designer help me pick out appliances?

If you are unsure of where to start, we are happy to offer recommendations of some of our top brands and models. We always suggest that you go to your local appliance retailer or big box store like The Brick or Home Depot to view these products in-person yourself before purchasing.

I already have a design, can I still work with you?

Yes! We can work from existing plans at any stage. Our team of kitchen design experts will review your plans and translate those in to the Loran product line.

What does the Loran design process look like?

At Loran, we don’t just sell cabinets—we design kitchens that actually work for real life. It all starts with our guided intake process, where we get to know how you live, what you love, and what’s driving this renovation in the first place. From there, we use build out a layout that’s not just pretty—it’s purposeful. Every cabinet is part of a bigger vision: one that’s been curated by professionals who do this every day.

We handle the design thinking so you don’t have to, layering in smart storage, layout flow, and timeless materials. And unlike big-box or local millwork shops that expect you to figure it all out yourself, we make sure every detail is buttoned up—without the overwhelm of hiring a full-service designer. It’s the best of both worlds: expert design, made easy.

Loran keeps kitchen design simple and stress-free with our thoughtfully curated colour and stain collection. By focusing on a refined palette, we ensure a streamlined process without sacrificing style.

How do you choose what paint colours, stains and door faces to offer?

Our curated paint colours, stains, range hoods and door faces are hand-selected by interior designers to help simplify your decision making process. Traditional millwork companies rarely update their offerings, which can lead to hundreds of selections, including many dated styles. Furthermore, how do you marry up the right selections for the best end result? That’s where we come in. At Loran, we spent months gathering inspiration from all over North America and created a curated library to simplify the kitchen design process. We only offer today’s top millwork trends and timeless interior colour collections to ensure every selection is the right one. Our catalogue is reviewed every 12 months by Stil James design studio, experts in luxury residential design, to make sure we are always offering exactly what you are loving.

How much do your kitchens cost?

Our kitchens typically start around $40,000 but we are happy to review projects of all sizes!
